Japan’s Cybozu Partners with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC) to Democratise IT Tools for Small Local Businesses
Kintone Southeast Asia Sdn. Bhd. has entered into a strategic partnership with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC). This partnership strives to make digital tools more accessible for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across Sarawak, leveraging Kintone’s no-code platform to empower businesses without specialised IT expertise.
The signing ceremony took place during the International Digital Economy Conference Sarawak 2024 (IDECS2024) at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching on October 16, 2024.
Sarawak has drawn increasing attention for its digitalisation efforts in recent years. Established in 2018, SDEC drives the region’s economic growth by facilitating digital transformation, officially commencing operations in 2020. Since then, it has played a crucial role in developing new digital business opportunities and supporting private companies in their digitalisation journeys across the region.
SDEC's collaboration with Cybozu and Kintone Southeast Asia aligns with the need for accessible, adaptable solutions for local businesses. Kintone’s low-code/no-code platform offers an affordable entry point, giving non-technical users the ability to build, manage, and improve their business systems. This flexibility makes Kintone an ideal solution for Sarawak-based SMEs, enabling them to modernise operations at a manageable pace.
For Kintone Southeast Asia, this partnership signals the start of dedicated sales and marketing activities in Sarawak, building on its presence in Malaysia since March 2022. With support from SDEC, the collaboration will expand Kintone’s reach and foster digital transformation throughout the state.
Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Chief Executive Officer of SDEC Dato Ir. Ts. Sudarnoto Osman is hopeful that the collaboration between SDEC and Kintone will accelerate the digitalisation of SMEs in Sarawak by providing the digital tools, resources, and training to enhance their operational efficiency, improve customer engagement, and increase their competitiveness in the digital economy landscape.
Tsubasa Nakazawa, Managing Director of Kintone Southeast Asia Sdn. Bhd. expressed excitement about the new business partnership with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation aimed at driving Kintone sales. Kintone is committed to working closely with the corporation, leveraging both organisations' networks and expertise, to increase the adoption of Kintone in Sarawak and contribute to the region’s digital transformation and economic development.
According to statistics as of 2023, there are over 89,000 registered small and medium enterprises across various sectors in Sarawak. To accelerate the state’s digital transformation, particularly for small and medium-sized businesses, a solution is needed that combines affordability with the ability to address the digital skills gap. Tools like Kintone help local businesses create a more inclusive digital environment, enabling their growth in a fast-maturing and competitive landscape.
